From a young age Kandy was selected by the Kogui elders (Mamos) to be raised closer to the towns down the mountain so that he could learn spanish in preparation for him to serve in the opening of the Kogui traditions to the rest of the world. Kandy is currently the highest serving Kogui who officiates all official business on behalf of the 4 Sierra tribes with outside entities such as the Gov't, public and companies constantly trying to over run into their territory. The Gov't provides some support but they are 99% dependent on donations to re-purchase lands mostly stolen since the 30's to travel, food and basic needs to move from meetings to meetings, councils, etc. The work never ends!
